3 Beneficiaries, 2 Walkers, 1 Goal

Two intrepid fundraisers are planning a mammoth walk this summer to raise funds for three causes close to their hearts, Help for Heroes, Stranraer Cancer Drop in Centre and Stranraer FC Youth Development.

The 321 Association (3 Beneficiaries, 2 Walkers, 1 Goal) - James MacLeod and John Forsyth - visited all fifteen villages and towns within our area during their three day walk on the 10th of July to 12th of July 2010.

The inspiration for the walk came from discussions between the two on how they could raise funds for Help for Heroes and the local Stranraer Cancer Drop in Centre and also The Stranraer FC Youth Development of which they are both voluntary coaches.

  • Day One (27 miles) starts at Cairyryan to Stranraer then onto Kirkcolm, over to Leswalt via Ervie and then down to Portpatrick.
  • Day Two, the longest of the three, begins at Portpatrick then onto the Lochans, Stoneykirk, Sandhead, Ardwell, Port Logan, Drummore and then back to Sandhead. This leg will consist of a gruelling over 31.6 miles.
  • Day Three (only 23.6 miles, is from Sandhead to Dunragit, Glenluce to New Luce and then over to Castle Kennedy and then back to the finishing line at Stranraer.

James and John are now training hard for their walk – as coaches for the Stranraer FC Youth Development Scheme they are already in excellent condition but they know that they need to build on their existing strength to undertake their challenge.

As well as walking through all of our villages, they will also assist with coaching sessions in each community to raise awareness of the Youth Development Programme.

There are sixteen stages of the fundraising walk and there are several ways in which everyone can help to donate to the three worthwhile causes.

Each overall day can be sponsored for the sum of £100 and each individual stage can be sponsored for the sum of £50.00 and all sponsors will be named upon the web pages for the fundraising event which will be on www.stranraer.org within the next few days.

Collection tins will be placed all over Wigtownshire shortly which will be collected by James and John as they visit each location and the two walkers will be collecting as they travel through the villages.

James and John noted:

"We decided that we would visit each village to help to raise awareness of what each charity does and how the donations which everyone gives will help both the local area and also the Help for Heroes National Charity. We are incredibly excited by our challenge and hope that as many people as possible will meet us when we pass through each area."
