Cairnryan Public Inquiry Complete
The public inquiry into plans to double the size of Cairnryan's ferry port officially finished today (Thursday).
The Port of Cairnryan, oyster fishermen, and a Cairnryan resident were due to submit their final arguments in writing to the Scottish Executive Inquiry Reporter's Unit.
After that a report will be written based on evidence given over the last three weeks, which will then be handed to Ministers.
Based on the report’s content, but also on recommendations of the inquiry reporter, Ministers will decide whether to grant an HarbourEmpowerment Order necessary for a maritime development on this scale.
It is understood that the Port of Cairnryan are keen to get the green
light for their £60 million development before the May elections
because a new administration could be elected or re-shuffled,
therefore delaying any decision.
