Award for Community Chef

STRANRAER chef Douglas Lisi has had his work in the community recognised with a top award.

Douglas and L'Aperitif in Stranraer have carried off the Business Partnership Award in Careers Scotland's Excellence Awards.

According to Bob Kay, Careers Scotland local advisory board member for the Borders, L'Aperitif is:

"a great example of a small business making a big contribution to young people for the benefit of the economy in the local area".

Douglas knew he was in a shot list of three for the award — the others were the giant BP company at Grangemouth and Drumchapel Arts Workshop — before he travelled to the Glasgow Science Centre on Wednesday of last week.

He was absolutely delighted when he was announced as the winner.

"I was over the moon", he told the Free Press.

"I did not think I would win. When you see what the other people did you think there is no way you deserve things like that".

Douglas was nominated for the award by Careers Scotland Dumfries and Galloway.
