Where's Wigtownshire?
WIGTOWNSHIRE is no longer in Scotland — according to a map published
by the Scottish Executive.
A booklet entitled Small Country Big Plans distributed to communities across the country has chopped the area off the map on the front.
The publication asks communities to rank key themes in order of importance for Scotland's long-term development.
But the mistake has not gone down well in Ochtrelure and Belmont where community council chairman Moira McCamon has fired off a letter of complaint. In it she said:
"What have your map makers done with our south-west from Stranraer, Portpatrick, Mull of Galloway, much of the coastline along Luce Bay, Wigtown Bay and Solway Firth?
"Even apart from a display of the ignorance of the fringes shown by centre, the amputated area may well have great prospects as a holiday zone as road, rail and air travel decline."
But a spokesman said the map was merely a guide and not a representation of Scotland.
He said:
"This is no way meant as a slight against Dumfries and Galloway in any shape or form. We definitely want to hear people's views."
