Stranraer's Top Firefighters
TWO Stranraer firefighters are among the top three teams in Britain.
In the Trauma Challenge at the United Kingdom Extrication Challenge in Wales, Isobel Torbet and Tanya Ellis representing Wigtownshire, came third, beaten only by Northern Ireland and eventual winners Hampshire.
Their achievement has been described as "amazing" Fire service teams from all over the UK took part in the Technical Rescue and Trauma Challenges with Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service represented by teams from Stranraer and Dalbeattie at the Cardiff Indoor Arena.
The extrication team consisting of Richard McReadie, Tony Reid, Darren Jessop, Tanya Ellis, Stephen Kevan and James McGhie qualified
on the opening day in the top 20 of 46 teams and progressed to the final stages where they finished 16th overall.
Area manager Hamish McGhie, head of the Services Training Command was delighted with the results.
"The standard of competition in these events was extremely high. To finish third in such a prestigious UK competition was an amazing performance and it is a reflection on the dedication and effort of all those representing Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service at this competition".
