Holiday Scheme Success
FAMILIES from the Dick’s Hill area in Stranraer have been involved in
their very own action-packed summer holiday programme for the third
consecutive year.
Thanks to the allocation of Quality of Life funding from Dumfries and
Galloway Council, the Parents Activity Group were able to plan and
organise the timetable of activities for eight days of the school
holidays.
Family Learning Co-ordinator David Hodder led the venture, offering
guidance to the group with support provided from Stranraer Active
schools Co-ordinator, Ann Ferguson.
Park Primary School again hosted the Friday activity days. As always,
local chef Douglas Lisi was on hand to support the scheme delivering
his mouth-watering cookery classes and the arts and crafts workshops
proved very popular with the children once again.
There were also a variety of options for the children in the physical
activity front. The Council’s Leisure and Sport staff led multi-
activity sessions, with Johnny Glover offering yoga and Neil Farroll
running tennis classes.
Thanks must go to Park School teachers Alana
Dobie and Gillian Dickson for their time and contributions throughout
the holiday period.
On the Thursdays, a series of trips were arranged to various local
destinations, which saw sandcastle competitions, beach relay races,
and rounders high on the agenda.
