Old Tradition in New Ward
AUXILIARY nurse Gillian Nelson has carried on a tradition by giving birth to the first baby at the new Clenoch ward in Stranraer's Galloway Community Hospital.
For Gillian also works there - as did the mother of the first baby born in its predecessor at the old Clenoch. Her son Finlay Nelson was born on Monday at 10.47 a.m. weighing in at over eight pounds.
Gillian, of Bayview Road, Stranraer, expected to give birth in Dumfries but instead her son will have a claim to fame growing up.
She said:
"I didn't quite realise he was the first baby born in the new ward and it took a while for it to sink in.
"One of the women in the kitchen told me I would be the first person to give birth here because a staff member was the first to give birth
in the old ward.
"It's quite an honour for Finlay and he will be able to tell everybody when he is growing up."
Finlay's dad is Jamie Nelson, who works at Carrington’s World of Furniture. The couple already have a three-year-old son Robbie.
