Local Postie is First Class
STRANRAER postman, Steve Anderton, has been shortlisted for Royal Mail's annual "1st Class People Awards".
Steve, who has just recently joined Royal Mail, and based in the Hanover Street depot, was out on delivery in January around 8am on a dark cold morning.
In Belmont Road he discovered a middle aged woman who appeared to be unconscious lying in the roadway. He phoned for the emergency services and made her comfortable
using a blanket and his delivery pouch to raise her head. He also alerted some neighbours who were able to warn the traffic to stop her being run over.
Steve, who receives £100, said:
"I am delighted to have been nominated for this award. I would normally have panicked at this sort of thing but didn't have time to think about it. I am just glad that I was able to help".
Scottish winners from each category will be selected from this shortlist and they will then be invited to attend a national award ceremony on 26th March.
