Drug Seizures at Stranraer & Cairnryan

IN JUST three days, drugs with a street value of nearly quarter of a million pounds have been impounded by Stranraer police.

And five people have appeared in private at Stranraer Sheriff Court this week on charges relating to drug possession. Two of the seizures took place at the Stranraer and Cairnryan ferryports.

On Saturday, police revealed they had arrested a man from outwith the region, later identified as a South African, who allegedly had 45 kilos of cannabis resin worth £225,000 in his possession. He was travelling from Northern Ireland. A police source said:

"It was an intuitive stop by an experienced port officer".

This was followed by the arrest of a man and a woman as part of a local police operation when heroin worth £6000 were seized.

Then on Tuesday it was announced that two 24 year old men, both from outwith the area, had been arrested after three kilos of cannabis resin worth £15,000 was recovered from a holdall they were carrying as they passed through the port of Cairnryan to Northern Ireland.
