Councillor Urges Fast Setup of Waterfront Development Company
A STRANRAER councillor has called on the council to put its foot
down and set up a company to oversee the waterfront development.
Speaking at Wigtown Area Committee’s meeting last Thursday night,
council regeneration manager Tony Fitzpatrick said talks were
currently taking place between Scottish Enterprise and the council
over forming a Single Purpose Vehicle.
A SPV is a consortium, which brings together the special skills and
resources required for big projects like the waterfront redevelopment.
But Stranraer councillor Willie Scobie said the council should have
acted sooner in setting up a SPV.
He said: “We should be moving much quicker towards an SPV than we are
at the moment.
“If we are serious we have got to move the SPV forward and we have to
be driving it.”
Mr Fitzpatrick said that the “message was understood” and that he
hoped to have set up a SPV by the end of the year.
