Aldi Still Interested in Stranraer
Discount giant Aldi has said it is still interested in coming to
Stranraer despite delaying its planning application.
The chain says it has had to go back to the drawing board to adjust
its designs.
A spokesperson for ALDI said: “We are currently considering a number
of store designs which will be appropriate for the site in Stranraer
before submitting a planning application to Dumfries and Galloway
Council.
“In addition, the site is located close to a school and we are eager
to determine how building a new store in that location would impact
on traffic and pedestrian flows in the area.”
The £2 million proposed store would be sited on Stranraer’s Belmont
Road on the site of the former Coachman’s Inn.
The development would be 1500 square metres with 94 free parking
spaces, although no time scale for the development has been given.
A Newton Stewart store design located on Goods Lane has been
submitted to the council.
