Stranraer to Keep Rail Link
STRANRAER will retain its direct rail link north.
Network Rail have confirmed to Galloway MP Russell Brown that the service will not be scrapped as at first threatened.
But the MP is concerned that the number of direct trains will be cut from five a day to three.
Network Rail had proposed scrapping the direct services from Stranraer to Glasgow in its Scotland Route Utilisation Strategy Draft for Consultation.
Mr Brown wrote to both Network Rail and the Scottish Transport Minister, Tavish Scott to highlight the importance of ditching the
proposal on the basis that it would damage the rail link to Stranraer.
He met Network Rail officials from on Friday who confirmed that direct services will not be scrapped.
