Stranraer Regeneration Plans
REGENERATION plans for South Central Stranraer went on display for the public this week.
The unveiling came as local authority convener Tommy Sloan expressed his frustration at the slip in the time schedules for the development. His comments followed a meeting of the Neighbourhood Renewal group in the town.
He said:
"This is totally unacceptable, from both a councillors perspective and that of the local tenants.
"The people of Stranraer have waited long enough and as elected councillors we will be keeping a very close watch over the project.
"The council has put in millions of pounds into the housing renewal as has the Scottish Executive. As councillors we are clearly accountable for the use of public money and that is why I will emphasise once again, slippage will not be tolerated."
But director of investment and regeneration James Shirazi at Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership is confident that a successful neighbourhood renewal plan will be delivered for Stranraer.
He said:
"Co-operation between all the neighbourhood renewal partners will ensure we deliver our commitments on regeneration. DGHP is committed to making this a success and to date we are on plan to achieve the agreed targets.
"We had a positive and constructive meeting of the Neighbourhood Renewal project group in Stranraer and will continue to work closely with our key partners in Dumfries and Galloway Council."
