Council Customer Centre Plans
PRIME sites in Stranraer waterfront development are being eyed up by
Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The local authority is looking at basing a customer centre in the multi-million pound project. Talks are at a very early stage but officials are working up plans that will see them take over at least one of the new buildings.
The award of a casino licence has seen interest in the water development increase sharply. Any future work will depend on attracting private finance and the departure of Stena Line to Cairnryan.
But the latter is considered by many as a certainty and the fight for private finance will be made significantly easier with the casino as an enticement.
Councillors raised the prospect of a customer centre for the first time this week while looking at a region-wide asset management plan.
Amongst that are individual ten-year visions for each of the former districts. And the topic of new build on Stranraer waterfront features for both a planning and environment support centre and what is described as a service delivery centre.
Officials for the council were reluctant at this stage to go into detail. But a spokesman said:
"We are still at a very early stage with this new development, however the Council are looking into the possibility of including a customer service centre within the complex."
