Academy Upgrade Deal
STRANRAER Academy's final upgrade will begin in October after a consortium to complete the building work was revealed this week.
The deal will finally allow construction to go ahead as part of a £100 million-plus region-wide package.
The end product will see Blocks B and C replaced with a new extension.
And the announcement comes in the same week as a new headteacher has been appointed at the school. Depute head at Alloa Academy Norman Dawson will take over in mid-June. He is expected to visit the school this month.
The school's acting headteacher Joanna Pallett welcomed both announcements and was delighted the building project would begin in October. She said:
"This will provide quality accommodation at Stranraer Academy to enhance the learning opportunities for all.
School board chairman Seamus Donnelly also welcomed confirmation the
project timeline was still on track.
He said:
"We are not going to get too excited though because we have waited ten years and there is still nothing on site but it is good news.
There has been a lot of scaremongering in the last few months but we have complete faith in the people involved. The board never lost confidence."
