Galloway Community Hospital Officially Opened
THE new £12 million Galloway Community Hospital was officially opened on Tuesday and hailed as ready to meet both current and future health demands.
The state-of-the-art hospital became operational last September but has had to wait eight months for the official unveiling.
NHS Health Board chairman John Ross said:
"The opening of such a hospital as this new facility is a highly significant event for the communities of Stranraer, Wigtownshire and indeed further afield.
"It is an important component of the healthcare provision that NHS Dumfries and Galloway is responsible for delivering to the whole of our region."
He took Lady Emily Stair, who unveiled a plaque to mark the opening, on a tour of the building. Later he said:
"A wide range of services has been provided as part of this investment package and the board envisages further developments taking place on this site.
"What we are delivering here in Wigtownshire is very much in line with the Scottish Executive's objectives of delivering health as close to patients' homes as possible and it matches NHS Dumfries and Galloway's own commitment to better health, better healthcare."
