Housing Considered for Playing Field
KING George V playing field in Stranraer is being considered for housing to fill a development gap in the regeneration plans for Dicks Hill.
And if any deal goes ahead, the profits — estimated roughly at up to £2 million — could be used to transform Stranraer FC’s ground at Stair Park.
Another option is to use the money to redevelop the remaining land at the playing field for future use by the community.
The purchase of the top section is considered by Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP) to be a replacement for Moorefield, which was sold instead to a private developer.
That deal left the social landlord scrambling for additional land to finalise their new housing plans for south central Stranraer.
The local authority are currently scrutinising the deeds for King George V to find a better use for the land than its current one.
This ties in with DGHP considering the land as "one of a number of
options" although a spokesman said this week no agreement was in place.
