Casino Consultation Begins
THE FIRST step in consultation for a Stranraer casino was expected to be taken this week.
Councillors will be told about a "strategy" drawn up by local authority officials.
Economic regeneration manager Tony Fitzpatrick said the council will carry out "appropriate consultation" on the casino proposal. And this comes as the local authority look to team up with Donegal County Council in a European funded project to promote marine tourism at linked sites in Northern Ireland, Ireland and Dumfries and Galloway.Exactly what consultation will be held on a proposed casino has been a hot topic in the Stranraer area.
The council must wait until Parliament has taken the next step in the licensing process, expected to be complete by May.But Stranraer Councillor Willie Scobie has pushed for an early release of what consultation will take place. This is expected at the Wigtown Area Committee meeting in Minnigaff on Thursday. Mr Scobie said:
"I have been given a categorical assurance that we will have a consultation strategy before the area committee and I will accept no less."
