Waterfront Project at Crisis Point
STRANRAER Waterfront project reached a new crisis point this week with Dumfries and Galloway Council accusing the Government of "downgrading" its funding package.
The local authority attacked the Government on Monday stating it no longer considered the regeneration project as a national priority. And council convener Ivor Hyslop said:
"This is extremely disappointing news. Stranraer is an international gateway to Scotland.
"It is one of the busiest sea crossings in Britain and it is a priority route to Ireland and a key link to Europe and should clearly be recognised and designated as a project of national significance within the Government's national planning strategy.
"Perhaps it is just too far from the central belt to have an impact on policy".
But to throw more confusion into the announcement SNP South of Scotland MSP Alasdair Morgan responded:
"I am quite frankly astonished at the way that the convener of the council has either totally misunderstood or deliberately misrepresented the contents of the letter from the Scottish Government about developments in Stranraer and Lochryan."
