Councillor Quits Top Posts over Drink Drive Shame
STRANRAER councillor Robert Higgins has quit from two top posts after admitting his remorse over being given a triple driving ban.
Higgins has stepped down from being SNP group leader on Dumfries and Galloway Council and Wigtown Licensing Board convener following an appearance in Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday.
He will continue to represent the Wigtown West ward and is expected to remain as chairman of both the Stranraer Common Good Fund and the audit and governance committee.
The 61-year-old was given three concurrent two-year bans and fined £900 at after pleading guilty to a series of driving offences at the weekend.
