Stepdad Duped into Paying £5k
A STRANRAER man set up an elaborate scheme to defraud £5000 from his stepdad by lying that his ex-partner had died and his daughter now needed 24-hour care.
James Frazer (32) claimed his ex Fiona Ketteridge was killed in a car crash.
And his kind-hearted stepdad, William Marshall, gave up thousands of his own unemployment benefits to pay for the care Frazer claimed his daughter now needed.
The fraud started back in November 2006 and continued over 15 months, Stranraer Sheriff Court heard this week.
Frazer, of 15 Murrayfield Gardens, Stranraer, admitted on Tuesday to obtaining £5000 by fraud from Mr Marshall.
