Record
Numbers for Stranraer Bowling Club
A RECORD entry
of 176 pairs will compete in the second Stranraer Bowling
Club four-ball pairs tournament to be played on 23rd and 23th
of this month.
Stena Line and
the Small Towns Initiative are closely involved in the event,
which will be played on greens at Stranraer, West End, Castle
Kennedy, Kirkcolm and Sandhead. And the influx of visitors
is so great that most of the bed and breakfast accommodation
in Stranraer has been booked, with some people staying in
outlying areas.
Stagecoach Western
are providing a coach free on the Sunday to transfer players
to the various venues.
Said organiser,
Susan Kelly:
"This has
gone beyond my wildest dreams. There will be well over 400
people in the town over the weekend as a direct result of
the tournament".
She revealed
that 76 pairs have entered from Ireland, including two pairs
from Dublin and that 50 wives are coming over with players.
"Most of
them will be spending something in the local shops over
the weekend. It should give local trade a boost", she added.
