Galscot Factory Takeover

STRANRAER businessman Alex Sloan is planning to take over the former Galscot factory on the town’s industrial estate and manufacture timber products including kit houses.

Mr Sloan, who has to apply for planning permission, is hoping to start up by March next year if everything goes according to plan.

He has already signed up Derek Robison, who has wide experience in the building trade, as his production manager.

It was after he was approached by the ‘Free Press’ this week that Mr Sloan, a former councillor, revealed details of his latest business venture.

He said he got the idea after he had work done on his own home and noticed that much of the material was transported from the North of Scotland with even the roof trusses coming from Forfar.
