Health
Complex for Stranraer
STRANRAER’S
£6.3 million health complex is a step nearer its completion
date of March, 2004.
Dumfries and
Galloway Health Board have now approved the outline business
case which will be submitted to the Scottish Executive for
their go-ahead.
Included on
the development planned for the Waverley and Dalrymple sites
are a replacement for the existing Garrick Hospital and a
new Health Centre.
Favoured option
for the project takes in Dalrymple Hospital. The Primary Care
Trust are committed to buying the disused Rhinsdale House
from Dumfries and Galloway Council for an agreed price. This
will be refurbished for rehabilitation services.
That would allow
the remainder of the accommodation in Dalrymple to be upgraded
to provide acute service and palliative care beds and the
maternity unit.
New buildings
on the site will provide a new operating theatre/endoscopy
room together with X-ray, outpatient department and accident
unit.
There will be
20 medical beds and 14 surgical beds with elderly medicine/rehabilitation
and day care services provided through what are described
as 28 step-down beds and two continuing care beds supported
by an eight to ten place day centre.
