Plans for Health Centre finalised

PLANS for Stranraer's new integrated health centre are being finalised today (Thursday).. proposed site of new primary healthcare facility

This is the last step before they are officially submitted to planners for permission to begin work on site. And, the 'Free Press' has also learned that negotiations to buy over Rhinsdale House to be incorporated into the project are nearly complete.

The meeting to agree the final plans comes just days after the Scottish Minister for Health Susan Deacon visited Stranraer to be given an insight into the project.

And, while Director of Finance at the Primary Care Trust Barrie Small said that the Minister did not give a commitment for funding, he told the 'Free Press' this week that she was very positive about the plans. "She never gave any firm commitment but I never thought she would because it was not that kind of visit", he said.

"But, she was very positive and supportive and liked the ideas put forward. She was very taken with the project and in particular with the innovations coming forward from Stranraer.

"The Minister also liked the technologies being introduced and the concept of care at a local level but also using new technology to cut down the distance of care".

While at Dalrymple Hospital, the Minister got a chance to look over the plans before moving onto the Dick's Hill Community Project.

Today the finishing touches will be put to the planning application, which should bring a quick start to work on site.
