Half of
budget for Community Projects saved
WIGTOWNSHIRE
is celebrating this week after securing almost half of a £223,000
budget for community projects.
Drummore, Newton
Stewart and Castle Kennedy will all benefit with £65,000 alone
going to the South Rhins village to improve safety on its
entrance road.
And, the news
has brought delight from Shire councillors who have fought
to bring funding to the projects involved.
Projects from
across the region worth a total of £1.4 million were competing
for the budget from a new community fund.
This makes the
£104,500 given to the three projects by the council's area
chairs sub-committee all the more rewarding.
Councillor for
Drummore Grahame Forster told the 'Free Press' this week "I
am delighted that the capital has been found for this project.
For Drummore to receive a quarter of the pot is fantastic".
The money will
be used to build a footway in Stair Street - the only road
into the village - to help pedestrians on both a school and
bus route.
