Millenium
Trust Drives Sports Complex Project Forward
AN EXCITING
sports complex costing over £3 million is being lined up for
the Belmont and Ochtrelure area of Stranraer.
A meeting is
to be held on Friday of next week to set up the Stranraer
Millenium Trust - the group that will drive forward the project.
The complex
aimed at the whole of Wigtownshire will feature an indoor
bowling rink, a football pitch, together with a stadium for
up to 300 supporters to Scottish Football Association standards,
and a community facility.
Chairman of
the project's steering group Sam Scobie revealed to the 'Free
Press' this week:
"It is an
exciting project and one that the town has not seen for
a long time.
"It will involve
a fair amount of work as we are talking in figures of £3
million plus but we are looking to involve various funding
agencies".
Work has been
on-going by the steering group for months but they are now
ready to take the project to the public and create the new
Trust.
Plans for the
development will be on show at Belmont Primary School from
Tuesday to Thursday and a public meeting will be held in the
school on Friday at 7 p.m.
Mr Scobie
said "We are looking for the general support from the public
and the outline plans will be on show for them to have a
look at. The meeting will then give them a chance to ask
any questions or raise any concerns they might have.
"We have had
tremendous support from the council and have offered their
expertise".
