Bowling
Away from Home
CHAMPION bowler Kath Stevenson is getting all set for what
will be the most far-flung match of her career so far.
The
Stranraer star has just been selected to represent Scotland
in a Test series in Windhoek which, as everyone knows, is
in Namibia in South-West Africa.
Kath
(55) has been playing bowls for about 20 years and already
has six caps for Scotland. Away from the bowling green she
and her husband Wallace run a guesthouse in Stranraer. But
for now, Kath is packing her bags in preparation for her exotic
trip to Namibia a week on Sunday.
She
will travel north to Glasgow, from where she flies to Heathrow.
Then there is a flight to Johannesburg in South Africa before
catching an interconnecting plane to Windhoek.
Along
with Kay Moran and Joyce Gourlay, Kath will represent Scotland
at the Windhoek triples event. Joyce Lindores will be added
to that trio to make up the Scots’ rink in the fours event.
The ladies will be flying the flag for Scotland and playing
against countries from all over the world at the May challenge
series.
As
well as hoping to collect some silverware, the Scots competitors
also have the chance to pick up ranking points which will
help them in their quest to make it into the squad for the
Commonwealth Games.
