Best cheddar in Britain

THE WORKFORCE at the Caledonian Cheese Company in Stranraer do not have to say cheese to smile.

For their Seriously Strong cheddar at the weekend captured the title of best cheddar in Britain and one of the partners in the business, A. McLelland and Son has become Safeway Scottish Supplier of the Year.

Earlier this year the supermarket chain signed a two-year deal with McLelland for the supply of Safeway Savers Cheddar.

A major bonus for Stranraer is another 20 jobs at the creamery, boosting numbers now to 114. Just 15 short of the total employee level when the Galloway Creamery closed after their former owners went bust.
