Community
Fund award of £25,000
EVENTS
in Stranraer, Portpatrick and Cairnryan have been given a
boost with a Community Fund award of £25,000 to the
local events programme.
Glen
Murray, events manager, said,
"I
am absolutely delighted with this news.
I
can now confirm, acts, artists and book venues well ahead
of schedule allowing us to book the best possible people
for next years events".
Events
play an increasingly important part in the local tourism infrastructure,
so their success is essential to aid the local areas
economic regeneration.
Importance
of events has been recognised in the newly published Dumfries
and Galloway Tourist Board Area Strategy, and as part of the
co-ordination of events, a group from the Council, Enterprise
Company and Tourist Board has been established to develop
an "Events Strategy" for Dumfries and Galloway.
