Reduction
in Crime
CRIME in two key categories has shown a dramatic reduction
in the Stranraer area over the past few months.
Domestic
housebreakings are down by almost 80 per cent for the four
months from April to July 2001, compared to the same four
months of last year. And crimes involving dishonesty, which
includes offences such as theft, shoplifting and reset, are
down by a third for the same period.
Meanwhile,
the level of recorded drug crime has shown a huge increase
in the Stranraer area.
Charges
of supply and possession with intent to supply - that is,
the area of drug dealing- have more than doubled, as have
possession charges during the same period.
Police
say that these increases are in line with their targets to
clamp down on drug offenders - a move which the public have
been calling for.
