Exclusions
Reduced
STRANRAER ACADEMY have announced a dramatic reduction in the
number of pupils being excluded from school.
Exclusions
- where pupils are suspended from school for between 5 and
fifteen days for whatever reason - have fallen so much that
the Academy now boasts one of the lowest levels in the region.
And
targets for reductions in exclusions which were set by the
Scottish Executive have been smashed.
The
improvement is so impressive that representatives from Northern
College, who run teacher training courses, are coming to the
school to see how it has been done.
In
the next few weeks the College will send a team to the Academy
to make a series of educational videos. These will be used
in, for example, teacher training, especially in the area
of special educational needs.
This
is not the first time the good work of staff and pupils in
reducing exclusions has been recognised either. In 1999, national
development officers visited after it had been identified
that "good practices" were being carried out at the school.
