Firefighters rescued

SIX STRANRAER firefighters were rescued by life-boat early on New Year's Day from the roof of their partly submerged tender.

The six were on their way to a flooding incident at the Rhins of Galloway Hotel at the side of the A77 road at Leffnol when they got into difficulties.

As the floodwater rose to the level of the door mirrors on the appliance, officer-in-charge Leading Firefighter Andy McGarva ordered his men onto the roof.

And it was from there that they were plucked to safety by Stranraer Inshore Life-Boat which had been alerted by the Coastguard service.
