Glenluce Schoolboy Wins Flight

WHEN lucky Glenluce schoolboy Chris Rae told his classmates he had won a flight from West Freugh, half of them did not even believe him!

Well, the "Free Press" can reveal that Chris not only donned a pilot's headset and went up in the plane - he actually took the controls and flew solo for a spell too!

It was all part of a grand prize draw held last month in aid of Stoneykirk Community Council.

The very tempting first prize which Chris won was the half-hour flight from the Rhins airbase which usually caters for military traffic.

A handful of civilian aircraft are based in the vast hangars at West Freugh too, though, and it was in one of these, a tiny four-seater Grumman AA-5 light aircraft, that Chris took to the skies last week.
