DRINKERS IN STRANRAER will have four new beer gardens within the next month to wet their palate while enjoying this summer’s glorious sunshine.

Bars at Craignelder Hotel, the Swan Inn, Bar Pazzerello and Chasers were all granted extensions to their licensed premises for the summer months, but not all without contention, at Tuesday’s meeting of Wigtown Divisional Licensing Board.

The Board debated for nearly two hours before overruling the Chief Constables wishes by granting Chasers, on North Strand Street, an extension to create a cordoned-off section of six tables in the alcove beside Petrucci’s Pizzeria.

Once the decision was made to grant all four extensions Board Chairman Councillor John Agnew said

"It is a delight in these summer evenings to see people out in the sun enjoying themselves. Lets get modern, get with it".
