Timber-Framed
Kit Houses
WORK has started on a factory to make timber-framed kit houses
on the industrial site in Stranraer.
And
local businessmen Alex Sloan and Derek Robison are confident
that within three years they will be employing between 25
and 30 people.
Galloway
Timbers as the company will be known, will start production
in about two months’ time, employing eight people including
the two partners.
Plans
for the new business were first revealed in the "Free Press"
in December.
Since
then the former Galscot factory has been stripped to its metal
frame and work is now underway to get it ready for an official
opening some time in August.
One
of the company’s kit houses has just been completed on a new
site at Leswalt.
A
local architect has put together a portfolio of 12 different
house types although once the project gets underway, people
will be able to stipulate an internal layout to suit their
own wishes.
