Xmas
Lights
STRANRAER
is set to be lit up as never before this Christmas, the "Free
Press" can reveal.
The
biggest and brightest display of Christmas lights on record
is planned, as organisers attempt to build on last year's
memorable efforts.
Then,
the festive lights were transformed from those devastated
by the Boxing Day storms in 1998.
This
year, however, funding has been attracted from a variety of
sources which will not only ensure the same brilliant display
of lights in the town centre and Agnew Park as last year,
but that the display will also be expanded to include parts
of the town not previously lit up.
In
the wake of a tough year for the area, after which the foot-and-mouth
crisis will linger long in the memory, cash amounting to almost
£25,000 has been secured to ensure a yuletide lift.
Funding
will come from the Common Good Fund (£10,000); Small
Towns' Initiative (£5000); Wigtown West Area Committee
(£5975) and the Community Resources Committee (£2259).
