Millionaire Irene McColm

IN THE TIME it takes Chris Tarrant to ask a question, Irene McColm discovered she was a millionaire on Saturday night.

A former fish farm worker, Irene then phoned the five other members of the syndicate she heads - and they thought she was joking.

Thanks to the Lucky Dip ticket she bought at W. H. Smith in Stranraer, the six, who all worked at Pinneys at Finnarts Bay, shared 6.6 million.

It was while a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire ended up with 4000 that Irene (53), who lives in Orchard Road, Stranraer, checked the numbers.

After leaping round the living room at her home, she rang her daughter Wendy to tell her of the win - then checked and rechecked the numbers on the winning ticket, 12,23,28,34,36 and 40.

Then it was on to other syndicate members, Moira Mann (60), Betsy Love (49), Tommy McCutcheon (31), Susan Kennedy (29) and Stephen Muir (24) to pass on the incredible news..
