World Record
STRANRAER’S Bill McFadyen created a new world record for powerlifting
at Polmont near Falkirk at the weekend.
In
his third lift in the 90kg Masters Three, he recorded 170
kilos, the best ever. But only one of the three referees was
world class and two are needed to ratify a world record so
Bill had to be content with bringing home the gold medal.
Bill
was competing for the first time in a higher bodyweight class,
having moved up from 82.5 kg.
With
his first lift of 160 kilos, he smashed the British record,
which he bettered with his second lift of 165 kilos. Then
came the unofficial world record.
Bill
described himself as "very pleased" with his effort.
