Refurbished
Pool reopened
REFURBISHED
leisure pool at the Ryan Centre, Stranraer, officially reopened
on Friday.
Depute
Minister for Environment, Sport and Culture Allan Wilson was
earmarked to cut the ribbon.
But
he cried off to attend the launch of a soccer academy at Kilmarnock
Football Club.
So
Beth Gordon, Deputy Convener of Dumfries and Galloway Council
wielded the scissors and duly declared the place open.
The
council took the opportunity to launch their Leisure and Sport
Strategy for the years 2001 to 2005.
And
they were congratulated by Brian Sampson, the Director of
Development for sportscotland.
He said the strategy was important in three ways. It was the
strongest possible statement Dumfries and Galloway could give
to the Government and Government agencies like sportscotland.
It was a very clear statement or what they wanted to achieve.
" I think it is terrific stuff. An absolutely ground-breaking
piece of work", he said.
