A
Safer Stranraer
ANTI-CRIME measures built in to a new housing development
in Stranraer will help to keep the occupants safer.
Items
such as laminated glass, solid front doors with high specification
locks, access controls in flats and no footpaths through the
development should all help to deter the criminal.
In
other areas where "Secured by Design" as the system is known,
has been adopted, crime has been cut by between 54 and 67
per cent.
On
Thursday, as readers last week were told, a "Secured by Design
Award" was handed over to Loreburn Housing Association who
developed the £1.5 million Burnside Court homes on the site
of the former SAI building off Edinburgh Road by Acting Chief
Constable Bob Ovens. He congratulated the housing association
on achieving the award.
Constable
Ian Howie, community safety officer, was involved in giving
crime prevention advice virtually from the start of the project.
And he was in Stranraer to see its completion.
