Passengers prefer Sailing

PASSENGERS prefer sailing between Lochryan and Ireland.

In 1999, the last year for records on the Irish Sea routes, 2.4 million passengers passed through Stranraer and Cairnryan.

This compared with 2.9 million on all crossings between Liverpool, Heysham and Holyhead to the Irish Republic and a total of 2.5 million on the northern route which takes in Liverpool, Heysham, Fleetwood, Troon and Ardrossan as well as Stranraer and Cairnryan. to the Northern Irish ports.

This was in spite of greater competition in the shape of new passenger services direct to Northern Ireland including SeaCat from Troon to Belfast.
