Tesco's Charity was Macmillan Cancer Relief

WHEN Tesco nationally announced that their charity of the year 2000 was to be Macmillan Cancer Relief, the staff at their Stranraer branch embraced the charity with great enthusiasm and over the year managed to raise an amazing 2400.

Tesco had pledged to give another 20 per cent over and above the amount raised and which enabled staff at the Charlotte Street supermarket to hand over a cheque for 2922 to David McMillan, chairman of the Stranraer branch of the charity.

Organiser for Tesco fundraising Mrs Helen Rice, said the money was raised by holding a sponsored walk; a Satur-day Sales Table on the Castle Green; a 60s and 70s night and a raffle. She expressed her sincere thanks to all staff and customers who had given such enthusiastic support.
