Mum Joins Pipe Band

KEEP it in the family is the motto as far as the McKay family of Stranraer are concerned.

Mum Amanda is the latest to join Stranraer and District Pipe Band - taking the family involvement up to an incredible six members!

As well as Amanda and husband Tom (39), their four boys are also involved; Thomas (12), Mark (10), Christopher (8) and even little drummer boy Alastair who is only six.

The men have been involved for a while now and Amanda used to be left out on her own. But she took the view of "if you can't beat em, join em" and joined up too.

She told the "Free Press"

"Once a week I used to go out with them to their practice at Lochans Hall as I liked the music. But I was not doing anything except watching.

"Eventually, one day I decided it was a case of 'If you can't beat em, join em' and the rest is history!"
