Gingerbread
Group Gets Grant
A
NEW Gingerbread Group in Stranraer will get support from a
£54,831 grant to the Dumfries and Galloway Group.
The
organisation received confirmation of an award of £54,831
from the Community Fund Scotland committee.
Gingerbread
is the largest national charity supporting lone parents and
their families.
Their
objective is to improve the lives of one-parent families by
assisting both the adults and children to achieve their full
potential. Groups are regularly involved in a range of vocational
and non-vocational training, with advice and information sessions
on health and family matters. Members also organise lots of
fundraising events throughout the year.
In
Dumfries and Galloway, the organisation has its office base
in Dumfries and works with self-help groups in seven locations
across the region.
This
latest award will be used to support Gingerbreads newest
groups in Stranraer and Castle-Douglas for the next two years.
Gingerbreads
Group in Stranraer was launched in September, thanks to a
start-up grant from Dumfries and Galloway Councils Wigtown
West Area committee.
The
grant award will enable lone parents and children in these
groups to benefit from mutual support, training which members
decide is appropriate to their needs and just as important
will enable parents and children to have some fun!
