Moves
for Local People to Take Over Harbour
FIRST
STEP in moves for local people to take over popular Portpatrick
Harbour will be made next week.
And
with an invite to villagers to set the ball rolling comes
a warning that without a clean working harbour, the village
could die.
Future
development of the harbour has been thrown into doubt with
the rejection of plans by South of England-based Leisure Harbours
Ltd to re-develop it as a marina.
Now
a group of local people have called a public meeting for Monday
night in the village hall.
And
the only item on the agenda is whether or not moves should
be made to try to buy it.
A
steering group consisting of local councillor Grahame Forster,
life-boat coxswain Robert Erskine and others in the village,
Ian Cerexhe, Robert Campbell, Bryn Watson, a former harbourmaster,
Mark Panter and Andy Begg are behind the project.
