Haulage
Job Concerns
CONCERNS
over the future of 120 jobs in Stranraer were raised this
week after haulage firm Dukes were bought by rivals Montgomery
Transport.
The
takeover was completed last week and follows a decision by
Dukes chiefs Ronnie and Winston Duke to retire from their
business.
Following
a Transport Commission tribunal last year, the brothers were
banned from holding goods vehicle licenses. They are currently
appealing against the decision. Now, fresh doubts over Dukes
future in Stranraer have arisen with news of a takeover by
one of their major rivals.
A
spokesman for Dukes said:
"Ronnie
and Winston are pleased that their business has been acquired
by another Northern Ireland-based company.
"They
are confident that all Dukes customers will continue to
receive a high standard of service and have offered to assist
in any way possible to ensure a smooth handover."
