Powerlifter
Makes Another Landmark
STRANRAERS
age-defying powerlifter Bill McFadyen made another landmark
in his amazing career by taking gold at the World Masters
in Texas last week.
And
not content with just the top prize in his 82.5 kilogram class,
Bill also created a new world record for the category by lifting
162.5 kilogrammes!
At
68-years-old, Bill, from Foundry Lane, Stranraer, could be
more than excused for leaving the weights on the rack now
and settling for the more relaxing aspects of retirement.
But
that is not in the former British Aerospace workers
mentality and he was already back in the gym, just three days
after returning from Texas, in preparation for next months
British Championships.
"There
is an inner flame burning inside me that tells me I have
got to compete" says Bill.
"It
is a thing that you have got to be born with, otherwise
I would have given up long ago. I come to one stone wall
and I have got to go through it, then I come to another
and I have to keep going.
"I
will keep going until they carry me out of the gym in a
box" he worryingly declares.
