Retail
Giants to Move Into Stranraer
COUNCILLORS
have cleared the way for retail giants Argos, New Look and
Birthdays to move into Stranraer in the new year.
At
Wednesday's planning committee meeting, members agreed unanimously
to approve an application from Palisade Properties PLC to
demolish the 200-year old Bellevilla House in the town centre
in order to build a mini shopping complex.
Now
the company will begin work as soon as plans for drainage
and parking are finally approved by the council.
A
modern shopping block of three units will be built which,
avoiding any last minute hitches, will be rented by Argos,
New Look and Birthdays.
And
that will be music to the ears of Stranraer shoppers who have
demanded more substantial clothes stores in the town.
Palisade
Director Paul Doherty told the "Free Press" this
week
"We
are hoping to put the finishing touches to tenants deals
so when these are tied up legally we will start on site
hopefully that will be within six to eight weeks.
"The
whole job is being treated as a six month project"
