Award
Winning School
BELMONT
Primary School, Stranraer, has just received a coveted Schools
Curriculum Award for the quality of their working relationship
with the members of the community.
The
school was visited by two assessors appointed by the Schools
Curriculum Award, an independently-sponsored body that for
20 years has validated the award.
Head
teacher Bill Burns commented "In our submission we
had to detail all our activities we as a school organise
with various sections of our community. These included such
initiatives as Starting Maths and Reading Together; Belmont
Toy Library Belmont Summer Playscheme; and our PTA-sponsored
Expressive Arts Club.
"Although
the school faces many of the same pressures confronting
other schools, we found it invaluable to list the many ways
in which our pupils learning is directly or indirectly
enhanced by our partnership with so many different individuals
and organisations in our community.
"When
the assessors came, we had many visitors to share examples
of the ways, in which they support our school, helping to
make it an even more successful and stimulating learning
environment".
